Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent
Victor Hugo
Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.
Plato
A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence.
Leopold Stokowski
Dorine Sorber is a fully qualified lecturer and piano teacher (Bachelor, Master and Mphil), with more than 20 years experience in teaching, from beginners to professional levels and all age groups.
She currently works as a lecturer at the Junior Conservatoire of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, and as a piano teacher in St Andrews, Scotland. She has served as an adjudicator and examiner for several piano competitions and exams.
She is passionate about piano pedagogy and believes in developing a strong musical and technical foundation from the start. Therefore, the focus is on learning how to play with a deep, full sound, and how to play expressively, while developing a strong and healthy technique. Other elements such as ear training, note reading and ensemble play are an equally important part of a pupil's development.
As parental support is key to succes, she wrote her thesis about the influence of parents in musical education and compared the role of parents in different cultures (Suzuki, Moscow Central Music school, music schools in Western Europe).
She offers private classical piano lessons on a one-to-one basis, to a range of levels and ages as long as they are keen to learn and practice between the lessons.
For those pupils who wish to take exams, both ABRSM and Trinity College Exams can be taken, and theory lessons are also available either separately or as a part of piano lessons.
Lessons are available in English, French, Dutch and German.
